Project 64: Plum

Plum is the color for this week's Project 64, a shade of my favorite color when I was in high school.  I thought that surely I'd have more than a few items in plum.  It turns out, that just like lavender, plum is not quite the image I had when I mentally colored with it.  The real color threw a monkey wrench.  So here are the few items I think best matches the crayon color out of the box.
One of special editions of Crayola tins that my sweet hubby bought me. :)
page in an Open Court reading book (1976 edition) titled Our Country

I had a plum dining room in our first little Cape Cod style home. Still miss that color. Worked perfectly in the setting. I like seeing your plums:) I want to share this with my daughter. She recently did a color post, so I think she'll enjoy it. http://onceuponacanvas.blogspot.com/2011/02/color-hunt.html

Plum was another "lavender" for me. A bit elusive. I love the vintage Crayola box. Priceless!

those crayons are the best! That tin is too cool! When I was little my biggest thrill was getting my 'ol box of 64's!! I love lavender also! Oooops! That should be PLUM!

I've decided that whatever the color for the week might be, it hides....certainly there will be plenty of plum around this week. Like that awesome shooter marble.

I chose the marble as my entry because I figured other people might have the tin since it's not rare. I think the tin was bought at either Walmart, Walgreens or Marsh (a previously owned by a local family). Whenever Crayola came out with a new product, my sweetheart would say to me, "Do you need this?" Notice that he did not say want, but need. He contributed to my quirky ways! :D Thanks be.

I love that crayola tin and the book. I mean, I love the photos, but also the things themselves.

The marble really captures the color of the actual crayon, that old tin is cool too! Thanks for linking up with project 64

Danelle,
I love both items too. When the sisters taught where I taught, we always used the Open Court texts. After they left, the other 1st grade teacher and I were the only votes for keeping Open Court as our reading texts. :( This particular reader was probably used in 3rd or 4th grade. Children versed in the Open Court system could read ANYTHING.

Hi Scrappy Grams!

Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on my Spring ATC swap. You asked about ATC's - well here is the official Wikipedia definition....

Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards, or 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches (63 mm X 89 mm), small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets. The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.) or even metals or cloth. The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold.

That just about sums it up! If you Google ATC (or Artist Trading Card) you will see some absolute beauties.

Kind regards,

Jo

Love that Crayola tin! What a nice hubby :D

Thanks for all your comments at my place...always love hearing what people have to say <3 You commented about my nationality; I'm actually a native Swede who moved to Canada when I was 10 (at which point I learned English)...and, yes...I now live in Finland (where my dad is originally from before he moved to Sweden...and later Canada!) As for the origins of the questions...just click on the 'Wee Bits button' at the end of the post, and you'll be taken to Leigh Ashley's blog where she hosts the meme every Wednesday!

Thanks again for your comment-love :D

I too LOVE the CRAYOLA tin! My youngest son loves rubber balls and crayons; I almost took a picture of a plum color ball sitting nest to the crayon but as luck would have it he missplaced the ball and broke the crayon so I kept looking. Thank you for all your sweet comments over at my blog.

I'd be very hard pushed to find any of that colour around the house. You did incredibly well! Every time I read one of these posts I start looking around for what might match. :)

Hi I tried to reply, but you are a noreply. Thanks for the lovely compliments and stopping by. If you are as passionate about a craft as I am you work away at it no matter what. I still have a cough, but it could be worse. take care
