A Photo a Day: My Daily Sustenance, Day 112

I am so delighted to see a goldfinch at my feeder!  I haven't seen any for more than a year.  Welcome, handsome Mr. Goldfinch!  (Am I presuming too much that because the bird is such a bright yellow that it is a male?)
Wishing a lovely weekend to readers and fellow bloggers!

Not being an expert on finches, but I think you are right in assuming that this one is Mr. Goldfinch indeed.
The ones we see most here are (in German) called Greenfinches, and sometimes I see the very colourful thistlefinches.

Aren't those goldfinches a delight to see? There's nothing quite as cheerful as their bright yellow. And I think you're right--it's the males that are bright yellow during the warm months.

English names of Birds are so confusing. Our Goldfinches area completely different species. We don't have yours - they look beautiful.

Scriptor's comment applies to New Zealand as well.
