Signs, Signs

Wilson was a junior high school (now they're called middle school) "back in the day."   Luckily, it wasn't torn down, but as one can read, it's now an apartment house.   In each apartment, something remains to show that it was once a school.  Also, behind this section, an addition built onto it, is the Maring-Hunt Public Library.  It is grand!  This kind of foresight is unusual in our city.  Bravo to the city government for this beautiful, old building being saved and put to excellent use!

how neat that the school's name is still there.

I think a school would be a grand place to live - those high ceilings and huge windows... and it is great that they kept the name, so everyone will know (or can easily find out) the history.

OH how wonderful! Instead of taking the building down they have recycled it!

An old school here was turned into "The Schoolhouse Lofts". It is a good reuse of these buildings which are usually well-built.

That's a neat idea! And I especially like that the library is so near!Cool beans!

It's nice they found a use for the building.

Good when old building are kept for other uses, and nice that the history is kept in the name.

I think that is a creative, innovative and amazing idea! I assume that there may be blackboards in some of the units or something like that? I know of so many schools that have been torn down due to the economy, I love seeing people who put these buildings that have so many memories in them to good use!

I agree with you instead of constructing another building which spends a lot of money why not salvaging buildings that are still in good form. Great idea!!

Hi there Scrappy Grams. I read your post on Brenda'spost today. I know I have come to your blog before. I think we need to be friends, hah. I saw that you loved some of the same things I do....bears, scrapbooking, so I am following you. I saw that cute granddaughter of yours in the sink. How cute.
I have always wanted to live in an old school house. Everytime I see one, which is rare, they are so close to busy roads. Come visit me at Cozy Blanket.

What a wonderful idea! I've heard of this being done in a small town several hundred miles from me ... but that building was newer and not nearly so beautiful.
