A Photo a Day: My Daily Sustenance, Day 133

This is an early Mother's Day gift from son Derek and his lovely wife Margaret Ann.
What amazes me about this gift is this: I have been picking up spring-colored napkins and then putting them down every time I shop.  (I don't recall sharing this with Margaret Ann, but she knows me really well.  We are, after all, BFF!) I wanted the napkins, but I didn't really need to buy them.  An aside: My uncle got me started using cloth napkins decades ago.  He was a salesman who sold to retail stores and, thus he had samples.  One summer he gave me lots of the samples that were no longer being sold.  I have used cloth napkins ever since then. I had no spring colored ones, but now I do!  The beauty of the place mats are that I can use any color with them.  The mats, napkins and a lovely notepad were ensconced in a basket.  I love baskets too! Aren't I blessed?

They're lovely. You're a lucky girl!

We use cloth nap[kins - and always have done in our family for as long as anyone can remember. Traditionally everyone got napkin rings when they were christened though somehow I missed out so I use my great-uncle's instead (we havwe the rings from the previous two generations.)

When my sister and I were little, cloth napkins were always used, and we had our own napkin ring each. Nowadays, when we are for a family meal at my parents', my mum loves to do a themed table decoration, and usually it is then paper napkins that match the theme. It looks just as nice but maybe isn't quite as posh.

Like Brother Scriptor I use cloth napkins and family napkin rings. I also use proper handkerchiefs. I can't be doing with boxes and bits of paper everywhere (point made from discussion with friends who came for dinner yesterday. He uses handkerchiefs and she uses paper and thinks cloth ones are disgusting).
