Good News for Muncie

A friend shared good news for our fair city on Facebook this evening. On Friday of this week, a rebuilt bridge opens!  Hip, hip hooray!  Now I, and other drivers, will have a straight shot to places we want to be.

Ribbon Cutting Scheduled for West Jackson Street Bridge

Staff Report
MUNCIE, IN - The West Jackson Bridge over White River in Muncie, Ind., which has been closed since September 12, 2011, has been removed and replaced. The newly constructed bridge, which is estimated to carry over 12,000 vehicles per day, will reopen to the public at the culmination of a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the Delaware County project’s completion, on Friday, September 14 at 8 a.m.
Delaware County Commissioners awarded the engineering contract for the West Jackson Bridge replacement to Indianapolis-based American Structurepoint in 2010. Working closely with the Commissioners, the City of Muncie, and Cardinal Greenway, design engineers American Structurepoint and contractor Beaty Construction, Inc., comprised the project team who created the 55’-6” wide, 275-foot long bridge. Due to funding availability, this LPA project was completed in just 12 months, more than two years quicker than most projects of this magnitude.
“The Jackson Street Bridge is one of the best total rebuilds we have experienced with regards to moving from planning to communication to construction,” says Todd R.Donati, president of the Delaware County Commissioners.
“Everyone was on board with how traffic and utilities would be routed. Our appreciation goes out to Marta Moody, executive director of the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission, American StructurepointBeaty Construction, Angie Moyer, project director/administrator of the Delaware County Engineering Department, and most of all, the patience of the community as we transitioned this total replacement to a beautiful and remarkable bridge.”
The West Jackson Bridge features new traffic signals at the intersection, a sidewalk on the north side, decorative railing on both sides of the bridge — similar to the High Street Bridge, and a multi-use path on the south side with two overlooks, as well as handrail and ornamental lighting.  The multi-use path provides a river crossing for pedestrian and bicycle traffic and acts as a trail connector to the White River Greenway, which is part of the Cardinal Greenways, the longest rail-trail in Indiana.
Presentations during the ribbon cutting will be made by Commissioner Todd Donati, with comments from Council President James King, Mayor Dennis Tyler of the City of Muncie and others.

Signs Signs

You can see other signs here.
If my car were available, I'd be Mall walking and I might indulge in liquid refreshment from this center.  This month our drought seems to be the main topic for conversations in person, on Facebook and elsewhere.

A Photo a Day: My Daily Sustenance, Day 187

The mini American Girl books that normally sit on the top shelf have been scattered hither and yon.  However, I don't mind because of the mini person who moved them.  She loves to carry as many books as she can in her tiny hands.  I'm thinking that this may be an additional aid to help her develop into a bookworm like her grams.

These are two helpers not mentioned on my Facebook site yesterday.  They are playing or is it investigating my bed that went to live at granddaughter Charley's home.

I love the vintage look of the Jenny Lind bed.  I already had the quilt, but it looks so much nicer on this bed.

Give-away from My Memories.com NOW!

I recently was contacted by the digital software company for scrap-booking.  The company is called My Memories.  I downloaded the program and produced my 8" x 8" album with various photos I uploaded.  Above is the front cover of my album I produced and had printed.  I'm very satisfied with it!  Below are the pages of my album.  Since it was my premier time for using the program, I chose to use the templates offered. I will try customizing my album next time.  Your album can be made into videos, and music can be inserted into the photo albums.  I hope you take a peek at My Memories web site.  I'd like to hear from you about your visit there.

It took me just a few hours to put the book together.  Whereas assembling an album the usual way, takes me weeks.  Just think, no cost for printing the photos, just upload either digital photos or scanned older ones from your computer.  I hope you take a peek at My Memories web site.  Choose what your favorite digital paper pack or layout is, then leave a comment here to enter the give-away.    Get one more chance by following me.  You can get even more chances by following the My Memories blog, Facebook or follow them on Twitter.

Here are some pages from My Memories web site that I found in just a short time of browsing.  I'm sure that if you go there, you'll find something of interest for you.  Notice, once you have the program, free pages are offered!  Now get going and check out My Memories so you can enter my give-away!  The give-away runs till October 7.
